What can you forage in March?

A fresh start for body, home, and spirit

March Foraging

March is a threshold month. It sits between what has been and what is still becoming, and many of us feel that tension deeply. Winter may be loosening its grip, yet the body and spirit often lag behind the calendar. Motivation can feel fragile, energy inconsistent, and clarity just out of reach. This is not a personal failing—it is a seasonal truth. Nature does not leap into spring; it unfolds into it.

This is where foraging becomes more than a practical skill. In March, it is a conversation with the land.

In the UK, March foraging brings early herbals like wild garlic and young nettles, both traditionally used to cleanse the blood and restore vitality. From a scientific view, they’re rich in chlorophyll, iron, and vitamin C—perfect for seasonal fatigue. Spiritually, these plants symbolise renewal and protection, helping you release stagnant winter energy.

Fruits are subtle this month but meaningful: bright yellow gorse flowers (used sparingly) carry solar joy, while late rose hips may still cling to hedgerows, offering immune support and heart-healing symbolism.

You may also find overwintered hazelnuts or beech mast, representing wisdom and intention-setting, alongside early spring mushrooms such as oyster mushrooms and (for the experienced) morels, long associated with rebirth and sacred nourishment.
