The Story of Moonstone Crystal Shop Romsey

A Small Business with Big Dreams
Moonstone Crystals began quite simply — by chance.
A visit to Romsey with friends led us to a crystal shop with “For Sale” signs in the window. At the time, my mum and I were searching for something meaningful to build together — a project to support her retirement and create a lasting family legacy.
Standing there, it felt less like coincidence and more like alignment. Within weeks, Moonstone Crystals was born.
We first opened in Dukes Mill, taking on the existing stock and learning as we went. Alongside my full-time role as a hospital scientist, I spent evenings researching crystals, their origins, and how they can support wellbeing. As our knowledge grew, so did the shop. We introduced information cards, chakra-based displays, and expanded into aromatherapy with essential oils and teas to create a more complete wellness space.
Although footfall was quiet at first, our community steadily grew. We saw how powerful a welcoming space could be — offering comfort, reassurance, and practical tools during difficult times. That belief gave us the courage to move to The Hundred and establish ourselves as a crystal shop in Romsey High Street.
The move transformed everything. A new audience brought new conversations and inspired us to create more bespoke offerings, including aromatherapy property bracelets and clearly labelled tumble stone bags. As a trusted crystal shop in Romsey, we understand that many visitors arrive feeling anxious or unsure what they need. By creating ready-prepared collections for calm, focus, protection, and sleep, we’ve made it easier to find support without needing the perfect words.
Three years on, Moonstone Crystals continues to evolve — guided by community, wellbeing, and the belief that nature provides powerful, practical support for everyday life.
CHANTELLE
Owner | Moonstone Crystals
From the age of eight, I was determined to become a scientist. I went on to train and work at Southampton Hospital as a Biomedical Scientist, completing my registration and later achieving specialist registration in virology — something I’m still incredibly proud of. I loved the precision, the research, and knowing my work contributed to patient care.
However, my career wasn’t without difficulty. After experiencing prolonged workplace bullying, I made the painful decision to leave. By then, Moonstone was already growing — not just as a business, but as a community — and I chose to step into it fully.
In the hospital, I helped people every day, yet rarely met the faces behind the samples. At Moonstone, I found what had been missing. In our crystal shop in Romsey, I speak to people face-to-face, hear their stories, and witness the shift when someone feels heard or understood. Often, the most powerful thing we offer isn’t a product — it’s a safe, calm space.
My scientific background now underpins everything I do. I research crystal geology and mineral structures, study aromatherapy chemistry and herbal properties, and explore how traditional practices intersect with modern knowledge. Blending science with holistic wellbeing has been transformative — both professionally and personally — teaching me the importance of practising the same care I encourage in others.
Around the time Moonstone began, I also joined a local community farm. Working with the land and observing the seasons grounded me deeply. What once felt like a clear medical path evolved into something more aligned — a space where science, nature, wellbeing, and community meet.
One of my favourite moments is watching someone visibly relax as they walk through the door — shoulders softening, breath slowing. To create that kind of refuge in an increasingly fast-paced world means everything.
Moonstone has taught me that healing isn’t only about medicine. It’s about connection, community, and giving people the tools — and the space — to find their own way.

ON THE BLOG
BUILDING COMMUNITY
From the beginning, Moonstone was never meant to be just a shop — it was meant to be a community.
While at Dukes Mill, I began hosting small monthly markets that quickly grew into vibrant gatherings of local makers, readers, and creatives. The excitement built naturally, and soon customers were asking when the next one would be. Many of those traders now stock their work in the shop, allowing us to champion independent, local businesses while reducing transport and supporting ethical sourcing. For me, it’s about more than filling shelves — it’s about sustaining livelihoods and creativity within our own area.
Since moving to The Hundred, the markets have expanded into Romsey Town Hall, welcoming returning visitors month after month. Seeing people connect through meaningful readings, handmade pieces, and shared experiences has been incredibly rewarding.
Education is another cornerstone of Moonstone. We host crystal workshops, sound baths, herbology sessions, and jewellery-making classes, giving people practical knowledge and confidence in what they’re using. In time, I hope to expand into retreats — immersive spaces that blend nature, learning, and sustainable wellbeing practices.
My vision has always been bigger than retail. I see Moonstone as quiet mycelium beneath the forest floor — connecting, supporting, and collaborating with local wellness practitioners and complementary businesses. If someone needs guidance beyond our expertise, we want to confidently point them towards someone we trust.
In a world that often feels disconnected, community matters deeply. Moonstone exists to nurture that — creating a space where people feel welcome, informed, and part of something steadily growing.
And we’re only just getting started.
