ts and laboratories, I was a child fascinated by stones. I would collect them from beaches and gardens, completely absorbed by their colours and textures. Crystals were my first love. Science became my profession.

For years, those two worlds existed side by side. My NHS career strengthened my analytical thinking, while my personal life remained rooted in curiosity about the natural world and the quiet comfort people find in meaningful objects.

Then an unexpected opportunity appeared: a crystal shop in Romsey was closing down. It had been loved by the community, and when the chance came to buy it, something in me knew this was the moment. I took the leap — and I have never looked back.

Moonstone Crystals was never about choosing science or holistic practice. It was about bridging the gap. I wanted a space where questions were welcome. Where we could talk about mineral formation and also about how a stone makes someone feel. Where learning was constant, and ethical sourcing mattered just as much as beauty.

But very quickly, I realised it was about more than crystals. It was about people.

A Community First

From the beginning, I didn’t want Moonstone to be “just a shop.” I wanted it to be a hub — a welcoming place where like-minded people could connect.

Romsey is full of creative, passionate individuals who simply needed a space to gather. And alongside Moonstone, another lifelong passion of mine was waiting in the wings: gaming.

Role-playing games have always been a huge part of my life. They’re not just about dice and character sheets — they’re about storytelling, teamwork and imagination. You can walk into a session as strangers and leave as friends.

That belief led to the creation of Veni Vidi Vici, our dedicated game shop. If Moonstone connects people through curiosity and wellbeing, Veni Vidi Vici connects people through play.

Role-playing games naturally build community. They create regular meetups, shared experiences and lasting friendships. At Veni Vidi Vici, experienced players and beginners sit at the same table. It’s inclusive, creative and welcoming — just like Moonstone.

Growing the Market Community

As both Moonstone grew, so did something else — our market community.

Romsey is full of talented small business owners: makers, artists and creators who pour their hearts into their work. Many simply need visibility and support. What began as a small gathering of traders has grown into a thriving local market.

The atmosphere is always incredible — conversation, collaboration and customers discovering new favourites. And it doesn’t stop there. We stock many of these traders’ products in Moonstone, turning one-day events into ongoing partnerships.

Moonstone began as a leap of faith. Veni Vidi Vici grew from passion. The markets and collaborations have strengthened our local network. None of this has been about creating “just” shops. It has been about building spaces where people feel welcome — whether they’re learning about minerals, creating a character sheet, or showcasing their handmade products.
