Eschscholzia californica, commonly known as Californian Poppy or Golden Poppy, is a vibrant wildflower native to the West Coast of America. Its striking orange and yellow blooms have made it a popular addition to gardens. Used by Native Americans for centuries, this gentle relative of the opium poppy was valued for its mild pain-relieving and calming properties, particularly for children. Traditionally, it was harvested at its peak flowering time when its alkaloid content was highest.

Introduced to Europe in the 18th century, Californian Poppy is often overlooked for its medicinal benefits. Unlike the opium poppy, it offers a soothing effect on the central nervous system without causing sedation. It has been used to relieve pain, including toothaches, and alleviate anxiety, stress, and nervousness. Recent studies show its effectiveness in treating conditions such as ADHD, anxiety, and bedwetting in children.

In magical practices, Californian Poppy is used to enhance meditation and focus during rituals. With its soothing qualities, this versatile flower is cherished both for its beauty and its calming properties.

Synonyms: Golden Poppy, California Sunlight, Cup of Gold.
